Enteropathic Arthritis
Definition
- Inflammatory arthropathy associated with chronic IBD
- Peripheral arthropathy in 15% of IBD
- Spondyloarthropathy (sacroiliitis) in 5% IBD
Clinical Features
- Peripheral Arthritis
- Acute migratory attacks ~ 1x / year
- Lasts < 1 month
- Associated with flare of IBD
- Affects large joints
- Transient
- Non-deforming
- Synovitis only
- Spine
- Classic AS
- Persists if present
- Treatment of IBD will not get it to settle
Differential Diagnosis
- AVN hip due to steroids
- Fistulae to Psoas or Hip
Treatment
- Treatment of IBD causes arthritis to abate
- Spondyloarthropathy treatment as for AS
