Question 1
32 year old builder, self-employed, otherwise well. Tendo Achilles rupture 11 weeks ago. Imaging shows a 4cm gap.
- Outline your management over the next six months, addressing potential complications/difficulties.
Question 2
52 year old teacher, painful L hip. Failed all conservative management – has been told he needs a hip resurfacing by another surgeon.
He has also been advised that he should have the other side done as well (during the same inpatient stay, a week after the first), as the Xrays show it is also wearing out and “it would need to be done anyway.” He has been told after his procedure he will be able to return to sporting activity.
- Discuss hip resurfacing as an option for hip arthritis, citing recent literature to support your discussion (25 points)
- How do you respond to the option of a bilateral resurfacing in this man? (15 points)
- Critique the advice he has been given regarding return to sport (10 points)
