Question 1. (30mins) 50 marks

A 70 year old female with body mass index of 45 presents with a painful non-union in varus of a subtrochanteric femoral fracture treated with an 1M reconstruction nail. She had fallen and sustained the fracture while on holiday in Europe 7 months ago.


Outline the problems associated with managing this case and provide a detailed plan of management.


Question 2 (30 minutes) 50 marks

An adolescent presents with recurrent dislocation of the patella.

  1. What are your indications for surgery and' how do you decide which operation to recommend? (40 marks)
  2. Outline specific complications of surgery for this condition. (10 marks)
