Wound less than 1cm & compound from within out (0 - 2% infection) |
| II |
Wounds more than1cm clean with little or no devitalised tissue (2 - 7% infection) |
| III |
Moderate to massive wound, high velocity injuries & those with significant contamination |
| IIIa |
Adequate soft tissue cover (7% infection)

| IIIb |
Extensive soft tissue injury bone exposed (10 - 50% infection) |
| IIIc |
Associated with vascular injury needing repair (25 - 50% infection) |
